Found: Murry’s Bay, 1980
Unusually vocal birds. Widespread honeyeater, except eastern South
Island. They are aggressive and will defend food sources such as
flowering or fruiting plants. Will commute more than 10 km daily to feed
on nectar. Important pollinator of NZ flowering plants. Tui were a
common traditional source of food for Maori. Nests are
predated by introduced mammals.
